Hint of Fall Calls for Heartier Fare

The first hint of fall sparks the desire to cook potages, oven-roasted dishes and heartier fare.    It happened today, the hot weather broke and gave way to gray skies and cooler air.  It is time for some German food.

 

 

MAPPING THE DAY

World travel has many gifts:  a view, a feeling, a wonderful meal.  Sometimes the smallest trigger can take you back to a moment on a RoadTrip.  Today we have cooler weather for the first time in six weeks.  And I suddenly remembered our visit to Bernkastle-Kues, Germany last September.

 

LOCAL STORY

Our day started with a view of the Mosel River and vineyards.  Then down to Bernkastle-Kues, a place that fulfills every storybook image of a German village.  Architecture, cobblestone streets, shops filled with German coo-coo clocks and beer steins and wonderful taverns.

VIEW FROM THE TABLE

After an idyllic German day with our family, we met several of their friends for dinner at Brauhaus Klouster-Machern.  A former monastery is now transformed into a delightful restaurant and brewery.

We drank, talked with new friends and dined on traditional German cuisine.  It is wonderful memory of a moment in time sparked by a gray, cool day.
