Ports of Call

Pre-Cruise Research in California

Ireland, Iceland and Scotland are our next cruise ship ports of call. We are diligently plotting our days for sightseeing, cultural immersion and delighting in local cuisine. The weeks ahead of a trip are always filled with joyful anticipation.

So in the spirit of pre-cruise research, we jumped at the chance to cook with fish from Iceland. We stopped by our favorite fish market, Santa Monica Seafood, in Costa Mesa yesterday. We were delighted with their offering of beautifully fresh Icelandic Cod. What a discovery!

We prepared it simply, with influence from pub food that we have had in Europe. We seasoned the fish, dredged it lightly in seasoned flour and dipped in beer batter. Then we quickly laid it in a hot iron skillet of vegetable oil. Poof! Fluffy crusted, flakey white fish.

We can’t wait to have fresh cod in Iceland and our other upcoming ports of call. To be continued…
