Local Story

Being married to an Air Force Fighter Pilot is an adventure that is not suited for everyone. For those of us who are lucky enough to endure the long months of separation, we make an extra effort to make every moment special when our pilots are home. Every month, the 480th Fighter Squadron, home of the Warhawks, invites their families, friends, and generally anyone else looking for a friendly smile to join them at the squadron for food, booze, debauchery, and overall a good time. This monthly get-together falls on the first Friday of every month, hence the name First Friday. At these events, we hail the new families that have joined the squadron and, sadly, we farewell those who are moving on to new assignments and leaving the Great Warhawk Nation.

Members of the squadron each bring something delicious to share, and with my sweet-tooth cravings for apple pie and cheesecake, I decided to make caramel apple cheesecake bars. I hope you enjoy making them as much as I did for my overseas American Family.
