Hawaiian-Style Labor Day Grilling – Pineapple-Glazed Ribs and Chicken

Hawaii

MAPPING THE DAY

K.O. and I have each traveled to the Islands of Hawaii twice before we knew each other.  She has been to Hawaii, Maui, Kauai and Oahu and I have been to Oahu and Maui.  Each of us describes our visits as paradise, relaxing and an experience in the Hawaiian culture.

LOCAL STORY

There are so many images of Hawaii in our memories:  flowered shirts and muumuus, brightly colored cocktails, volcanos, helicopter tour, the drive to Hana, Kona coffee, tropical flowers, leis, parasailing, crystal blue ocean, snorkeling, hotels, Waikiki, the Arizona Memorial, rain forests, luaus and pineapples.

VIEW FROM THE TABLE

While it has been many years since we have been to Hawaii, the cuisine we each remember most includes the sweet and juicy pineapples grown there.  Pineapples can be used in marinades, cocktails, salads and desserts.

For Labor Day this year, our grilling will be centered around Pineapple-Glazed Ribs and Chicken.  The Hawaiian-themed meal menu also includes a Easy Pea Salad, Fried Rice and Pineapple Upside Down Cake.  Enjoy the last days of summer and outdoor grilling!
