since our visit to the Magic Ice Bar in Oslo, we have been experimenting with making ice cups of our own. See our recipe for Summer Ice Cups below. Fill them with your favorite shot and drink up before the cup melts!
Summer Ice Cup Shots – Inspired by the Oslo Magic Ice Bar, we are serving shots in our homemade Ice Cups this summer by the pool. Skål! – For crystal clear ice, first boil about 12 oz. of water per ice cup on the stovetop. Let cool and boil again. Let cool to room temperature covered to avoid dust and particles to enter the water.; In the meantime, cut pieces of duct tape about 3/4 X 3". Select an old fashioned-style glass, about 3" wide, 4" high and a standard shot glass.; Place the tape over the rim of a shot glass, then suspend it inside a old fashioned glass. Pour the prepared room temperature water into the glass. Place in the freezer for 4 hours or until completely frozen.; To unmold, let stand at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
(It is best to thaw naturally, rather than placing the glass under water. The ice cup is more likely to crack.)
Remove the shot glass, then invert the glass and catch the ice cup as it slides out.; Repeat for additional ice cups. Store in the freezer until ready to serve. ; Also, while freezing the ice cups, place desired bottles of spirits in the freezer too. ; When ready to serve, quickly remove from the freezer and fill with a favorite spirit. Pictured is London Sloe Gin with a splash of lemon. Serve quickly and encourage everyone to drink quickly before the cup springs a leak. Fun in the sun!; –
