Dallas Tacos Game Day Grillers-Style

Dallas is known for gigantic cowboy steaks, no-bean chili and Tex-Mex. Years ago, our granddaughter Emily and her parents took us to a restaurant in Deep Ellum in downtown Dallas called Pepe’s & Mito’s. The chef there crafts his own style of Tex-Mex that he calls “Mex-Tex”. His recipes at the restaurant are so delicious and unique that the restaurant was even featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

As you can see, little Emily was all about the guacamole. We opted for the dish featured on Triple D, Tacos Norteños. Grilled skirt steak is sautéed with pico de gallo and their signature chipotle wine sauce and served on corn tortillas (not the traditional Tex-Mex flour tortillas).

The TV show inspired us to develop our own Chipotle Cream Sauce. Our RoadTripFlavors recipe is inspired by the Dallas restaurant version, but influenced by our Cal-Mex roots. We make our pico from scratch with homegrown tomatoes and citrus, homemade taco seasoning and fresh locally made corn tortillas. This is a great dish for game day grilling this football season.
