Street Tacos

Los Angeles, California

MAPPING THE DAY

For K.O.’s interior design business, she often treks an hour north to Downtown Los Angeles to the L.A. Mart.  It is a trade-only gallery of showrooms with furniture, artwork and decorative accessories.

LOCAL STORY

A few years ago, I tagged along with her for the twice annual show at the Mart.  While there are hundreds of stellar restaurants in Downtown L.A., there is little time for dining when KO is working.

At lunchtime, we decided to check out the Food Trucks that the Mart invited for the event.  Mind you, this was several years before the Food Truck rage, so we were apprehensive.  We stepped out to the parking lot and to our delight saw a familiar name and logo: Border Grill.

I will tell stories about our love affair of Border Grill food and chef owners Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken in future entries, but suffice it to say, we were thrilled to see a familiar name.  We jumped at the opportunity to enjoy their renowned cuisine off the truck that afternoon.

VIEW FROM THE TABLE

The truck menu is simple and affordable.  You can check it out online: http://bordergrill.com/PDF/Border_Grill_Truck_Menu.pdf.  We sampled several of the taco offerings.  The Yucatan Pork Tacos stood out as our favorite.  Here’s our version below.  Be sure to make the pickled onions for the traditional street taco experience.
