Game Day Venue Inspires the Menu

New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans is one of our most beloved travel destinations.  After all, we are the quintessential culinary tourists.  Our future travel plans are influenced (if not decided) by the promise of exciting dining opportunities.  New Orleans delivers great food.

Mapping the Day

The French Quarter has consistently been on our RoadTripFlavors radar when we are in Louisiana.  But we decided to start one of our visits by renting a car and traveling west in search of local specialties.  We went to Breaux Bridge for crawfish, Avery Island for Tabasco, Abbeville for Steen’s Pure Cane Syrup, St. Martinville for Cajun Chef Hot Sauce and Gramercy for Zapp’s Potato Chips.  We took the tours, took some pictures and took samples for our trip back to the French Quarter and then back home to California.

Local Story

When we go to the French Quarter, we have a list of “must-go-to” Cajun, Creole and New Orleans haunts.  Mind you, the list gets longer each time we visit, because we always want to try new things too.  There’s Johnny’s on St. Louis for Catfish PoBoys, K-Paul’s for Gumbo, Mother’s for a Ferdie Sandwich with Debris, Jimmy Buffet’s for a iconic Cheeseburger in Paradise, Cafe du Monde for Beignets and Cafe au Lait, Central Market for Muffaletta, Mulate’s for Cajun Boudin, Pat O’Brien’s for Hurricanes and Bourbon Street for Big Ass Beers. We graze throughout our entire visit.  Our secret strategy is to share most entrees so we can eat again in three hours.

View from the Table

Since New Orleans is host for the Super Bowl this year, our party theme was easy.  What better excuse than to let the venue inspire the menu?
